Roles and Responsibilities of the Monitor
Keep the child safe, protect, nurture and restore the parent-child relationships.
We are mandated reporters of child abuse, elder abuse, and serious threats to do harm against others. Suspicion of any of these will be reported to the appropriate authorities.
We are required to report all violations of Restraining Orders to the Court when witnessed by the Staff, in accordance with 5.20 of the California Standards of Judicial Administration.
We are directed to enforce visitation orders in accordance with 5.20 California Standards, and Family Section Code 3200 & 3200.5.
The monitor will suspend or terminate a visit at any time a Child becomes acutely distressed, or the safety of the Child or the Supervisor is at risk. The monitor’s decision to suspend or terminate the visit is not negotiable.
We reserve the right to refuse, terminate, or suspend services if it is believed the visitation or exchanges are not in the best interest of the child or it is believed we cannot assure the safety of the child. The Monitor will provide a letter to the parties involved and, when appropriate, to their attorneys in such a case.
The Monitor may also choose to terminate or suspend visitation if the case requires extensive case management time beyond the ability of the staff to provide. In some cases, the Monitor may charge additional fees for excessive case coordination. More than 2 hours per week of coordination time per case may be subject to an additional fee.
The Monitor must terminate the visit if the interactions between the supervised parent and the child have become inappropriate, and/or rules are not followed or if the situation becomes difficult and/or the Monitor feels there is a safety concern.
All activities during supervised parenting time must be of a see all, hear all nature as it relates to any physical and verbal contact between the visiting parent and the children, even during restroom breaks.
Participants may not use illegal substances or alcohol before or during a visit. We do not do drug analysis. However, if there is suspicion of use by any party, the visit will not be held. A child will not be allowed to leave with an adult suspected of being under the influence of drugs or alcohol. The police will be called, if necessary to determine if an adult is able to transport a child safely.
